United Way of Greater Mercer County and numerous volunteers will be busy working to “Stuff the Bus” on Saturday, August 13. This drive helps to provide school supplies for children most in need in the community. It is designed to help ensure that as many children as possible can start off their school year with the tools that they will need in order to succeed.
Created to help children enter school ready and determined to learn, as well as ease the financial burden on families struggling to make ends meet, “Stuff the Bus” provides hundreds of students each year with backpacks filled with binders, pencils, pens and other supplies.
The drive is a joint effort, as United Way works with other communities in order to make “Stuff the Bus” an even greater success. Mercer County works alongside Central Jersey, Hudson, Monmouth and Greater Union Counties, who also arrange similar events throughout New Jersey.
“It makes good business sense for both our local United Ways and the communities we serve for us to all work together to make this drive a success,” said Herbert Klein III, president and CEO of the United Way of Greater Mercer County. “Joining efforts reduces duplication, improves efficiency and delivers better service to our constituents.”
“Stuff the Bus” will take place on Sunday, August 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of Wal-Mart on Route 1 in Lawrenceville. Shoppers will receive a list of school supplies to use inside of the store, and can bring their purchased supplies to the bus located in parking lot.
