Amy Locane-Bovenizer, a Hopewell Borough resident and former Melrose Place actor, is out on bail after being charged in a fatal car crash June 27 in Somerville, according to Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Jack Bennett.

Bennett said the 38-year-old West Prospect Street resident is charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and third-degree assault by auto in a crash that killed Somerville resident Helene Seeman, 60, and injured her husband Fred, also 60.
The prosecutor’s office said Fred Seeman was driving his 2010 Mercury Milan at about 9:16 p.m. June 27, with Helene in the passenger seat. He was driving south, turning into his driveway on Cherry Hill Road, when his car was allegedly struck on the passenger side by a 2007 Chevy Tahoe driven by Locane-Bovenizer going the opposite direction.

Helene Seeman was declared dead at the scene, and Fred was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with serious injuries. Locane-Bouvenizer suffered minor cuts to her right foot, according to a press release issued by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The Prosecutor’s Office said Montgomery Township police officers at the scene smelled alcohol on Locane-Bouvinizer’s breath and saw other signs of impairment. The police arrested her for drunk driving and took her to Princeton Medical Center.

Locane-Bouvenizer is also accused of being involved in a minor hit-and-run crash in Princeton minutes before the fatal collision. Prosecutors said she rear-ended another vehicle at an intersection in Princeton, and both drivers got out of their cars. The other driver called the police, and Locane-Bovenizer got back into her SUV and continued driving. The other driver was allegedly following Locane-Bovenizer and saw her knock over mailboxes right before hitting the Seemans’ car.

If convicted, Locane-Bovenizer faces 5 to 10 years in prison.

Bennett said the Prosecutor’s Office was still awaiting the results of a test of Locane-Bovenizer’s blood alcohol content.

Locane-Bovenizer’s latest role as an actor was as Lily Brown in Hopewell’s Off-Broadstreet Theater’s production of Miss Connections in June. She has also had numerous roles in Hollywood, including as an original cast member for the first 13 episodes of Melrose Place in 1992. She also had roles in Secretary (2002) Airheads (1994) and The Heist (1999.)
