Effective at 10:23 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, Hamilton Township Mayor John Bencivengo rescinded the limited disaster declaration that was made in response to the storm system that impacted sections of Hamilton Township, which began on Sunday evening.

By midnight on Monday evening/Tuesday morning, power was restored in all areas of Hamilton Township according to emergency management responders. Earlier that morning, approximately 400 homes in the community were without electricity.

Although the limited disaster declaration has been rescinded, Township employees are continuing clean-up efforts to remove tree debris from the sides of roads. Residents removing tree or other vegetative debris from their property may place the debris near the gutter areas in front of their homes for the Township to remove. Residents may also drop off these items to the parking lot area near Gropp’s Lake (the area that is routinely used for leaf drop-off during the fall season) or the Township’s Ecological Facility.

Township Inspectors are continuing their efforts in the community to assess whether residents’ homes that may have been damaged are structurally sound and safe to reside in. Inspectors and other Township personnel have also been working to gather pictures of the damage in the case that the pictures might improve the Township’s chances to receive relief or aid.

For residents with concerns over possible price-gouging by independent contractors who are working on clean-up efforts, the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs can be contacted by phone at 1-800-242-5846 or online at http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov.

“While clean up efforts continue, I want to thank all of the dedicated emergency personnel who helped respond to this severe storm. I would like to commend our emergency management team, our police officers, firefighters and EMS personnel, our Township Public Works employees and our Township Inspectors. I also want to thank the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and Mercer County emergency personnel for their assistance, as well as the utility representatives who responded to this storm and volunteers at Signal 22,” said Mayor Bencivengo.

I remember just getting home in my driveway and the storm coming from out of nowhere. I could not exit my vehicle. it was awful, debris was hitting the car at such a force and the car was moving. I thought I was a goner. I could do nothing but wait it out. I was even debating calling 911, because literally I was a sitting duck.

Our house in Yardville got hit with a large township tree. Still cleaning up the debris. Glad that nobody got hurt. It was horrible. Good luck to all who have been affected. It takes alot of time and effort to clean up the mess. Any volunteers can just ask to help those in need.

Our above ground pool is totally destroyed. Kaput. Finite. We had two fairly mature trees come crashing down and it just destroyed our pool. So sad. Dealing with the insurance company now and it's such a pain in the you know what but I'm sure it will work out over time. Does anyone know yet if a tornado touched down becuase it surely seemed like it.

We had a large branch break off of a swamp maple in our backyard, the same tree that we had pruned a week ago. I called my insurance company yesterday and an adjuster called me this morning. Since the tree didn’t hit or damage anything else, the damage to it isn’t covered! This would have been the first claim I’ve ever made and it isn’t covered!

What a horrible storm. The weatherman predicts more severer storms for Wednesday and possible through the rest of the week.

It was a wicked storm, I honestly thought a tornado was going through our neighborhood. We're in Yardville and there are trees down everywhere. A mature tree came down on our property, missed our neighbors house by just a few feet. Very scary.
